Matematik dersinde öğrenme merkezleri uygulamasının öğrenciler üzerine etkisi

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, ortaokul 7.sınıf matematik dersine göre hazırlanmış olan öğrenme merkezlerinin, öğrencilerin akademik başarısına, akademik başarısının kalıcılığına etkisinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Öğrenme merkezleri, geometri ve ölçme temasından çokgenler konusu için hazırlanmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu İstanbul ili Tuzla ilçesinde yer alan İbni Sina Ortaokulunun 7.sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmuş olup deney grubunda 25, kontrol grubunda 26 öğrenci yer almıştır.Çalışmada nicel ve nitel araştırma yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel boyutunda öntest-sontest kontrol gruplu deneysel desen modeli kullanılmıştır. Nicel çalışmada öğrencilerin, araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen, geçerlilik ve güvenirliği belirlenmiş akademik başarı testi kullanılmıştır. Nitel boyutunda ise örnek olay yöntemi kullanılmış olup veri toplamak amacıyla görüşme formu ve gözlem formu kullanılmıştır. Nicel verilerin analizinde SPSS 22 kullanılmıştır. Kontrol ve deney gruplarının başarı puanlarının karşılaştırılmasında Mann-Whitney U testi kullanılmıştır. Verilerin yorumlanmasında p¬¬0,05 anlamlılık düzeyi kabul edilmiştir. Nitel verilerin analizinde, kullanılan formlardan alınan bilgilerle içerik analizi yapılmıştır.Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre, deney grubunun başarı testi puanlamalarında, kalıcılık ölçümlerinin anlamlı farklılık yarattığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca yarı yapılandırılmış gözlemci ve yarı yapılandırılmış öğrenci formlarından, öğrenme merkezleri uygulamasının öğrencilerin konuyu daha rahat kavramalarına ve özgüvenlerini arttırdığına yönelik bilgiler edinmemizi sağlamıştır.

This study aims to examine the impact of learning centers on the academic performance and the consistency of academic performance of students, structured according to the 7th grade mathematics course. The learning centers were prepared to address polygons, a topic in geometry and measurement. The study population comprised 7th grade students from İbni Sina Junior High School, Tuzla, Istanbul; 25 students were assigned to the study group, and 26 to the control group. Both qualitative and quantitative research methods were used in this study. For the quantitative component, an experimental pattern model with pre- and post-test control groups were used, with a validated academic performance test along with proven reliability, which was developed by the author. For the qualitative component, a case study approach was used, with a semi-structured interview form for collecting data, and a semi-structured observer form. The software application SPS22 was used for analyzing quantitative data. Performance scores of the controls and the study group were compared using the Mann-Whitney U test. A significance level of p=0.05 was adopted for interpreting the data. Content analyses using information from the forms were utilized for analyzing qualitative data. Based on the findings, permanency measurements made a significant difference in the performance test scores of the study group. Also, the information provided by semi-structured observer and the semi-structured student forms suggested that learning centers helped students grasp concepts more comfortably, boosting their self confidence.
