Abstract
A RESEARCH ABOUT THE PERCEPTION OF SOCIAL RESPONSIBILTY AND INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF ETHICAL VALUES WITHIN COOPERATIVES Cooperatives as distinct forms of business rely upon members to work together towards collective goals. Ethics provides the foundation for trust that must be present for cooperation to occur. Trust lies at the heart of cooperation and provides the basis for communication that is essential for members to seek mutual benefit. As a fragment of business ethics, social responsibility must be considered in cooperative trading system. Because it imply that corporations have an implicit obligation to give back to society such as is claimed as part of corporate social responsibility theory. Social responsibility is voluntary; it is about going above and beyond what is called for by the law. It involves an idea that it is better to be proactive toward a problem rather than reactive to a problem and it means eliminating corrupt, irresponsible or unethical behavior that might bring harm to the community, its people, or the environment before the behavior happens. This study explains, what is the perception on social responsibility and business ethics among cooperative members and the factors affecting these in various fields of cooperative activity. Also why ethics is important to the success of cooperatives and what boards of directors and managers can do to strengthen it. Emphasis upon social responsibility and ethical business conduct may help distinguish cooperatives from other types of business while at the same time reinforcing membership commitment and loyalty
