Osmanlı Devleti ve toplumunda fotoğraf ve fotoğrafçılık : İstanbul örneği

Abstract

Sanayi Devrimi, XIX. yüzyıla girilmesiyle beraber etkilerini daha yoğun bir şekilde göstermeye başlamış, toplumu kökten dönüştürecek yeni icatların önünü açmıştır. Nitekim 1839 yılında fotoğraf makinesinin icat edilmesiyle birlikte, önceden ilkel yöntemlerle elde edilebilen görüntüler, artık daha kolay ve kaliteli bir şekilde alınmaya başlanmıştır. Başlangıçta “dagerreotip” ismi verilen tek bir fotoğraf çekme tekniği varken, zamanla kaydedilen teknolojik gelişmeler beraberinde yeni çekim yöntemlerini ortaya çıkarmıştır. Fotoğraf makinesinin icadı Osmanlı topraklarında hızlı bir şekilde duyulmuş ve bu makinenin mucidi olan Daguerre ve icadı ile ilgili haberler Osmanlı gazetelerinde yerini almıştır. Kırım Savaşı ve Paris Sergisi fotoğrafın Osmanlı topraklarında daha çok bilinmesi ve yayılmasında etkili olmuştur. Osmanlı padişahı ve devlet erkânı tarafından fotoğrafa özel ilgi gösterilmiş ve bunun sonucunda “saray fotoğrafçılığı” unvanı ortaya çıkmıştır. Bununla birlikte bu göreve getirilenler “Fotoğrafi-î Hazreti Şehriyari” olarak zikredilmişlerdir. Bu çalışmada; fotoğrafın Osmanlı saray hayatında ve devlet kurumlarında kullanılmaya başlanması, ardından sosyal hayata yansıması ve yaşadığı gelişim süreci incelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Fotoğrafın Türkiye’deki tarihi macerası ele alınırken mümkün olduğu kadar literatürde mevcut olmayan hususlar ele alınmıştır. Bunun yanı sıra konunun muhteviyatı gereği mevcut literatürden de istifade edilmiş ancak daha önce kullanılmamış olan arşiv belgeleri de kullanılarak meselelere yeni boyutlar kazandırılmaya çalışılmıştır.

The Industrial Revolution began to show its effects more intensely with the beginning of the nineteenth century, paving the way for new inventions that would radically transform society. As a matter of fact, with the invention of the camera in 1839, images that could previously be obtained by primitive methods were now taken more easily and with better quality. While there was initially a single photography technique called ‘daguerreotype’, technological developments over time led to new shooting methods. The invention of the camera was quickly heard about in the Ottoman lands and news about Daguerre, the inventor of this camera, and his invention appeared in Ottoman newspapers. The Crimean War and the Paris Exhibition were effective in making photography more widely known and spread in the Ottoman lands. Special attention was paid to photography by the Ottoman sultan and state officials, and as a result, the title of ‘palace photographer’ emerged. In addition, those appointed to this position were referred to as ‘Fotoğrafi-î Hazrat Şehriyari’. In this study, the use of photography in Ottoman palace life and state institutions, its reflection on social life and the development process it went through are analysed. While discussing the historical adventure of photography in Turkey, issues that are not available in the literature have been discussed as much as possible. In addition, due to the content of the subject, the existing literature has also been utilised, but archival documents that have not been used before have also been used to bring new dimensions to the issues.
