Publication: İçten yanmalı motorlarda fındık yağının alternatif yakıt olarak kullanılmasının araştırılması
Abstract
THE INVESTIGATION OF USING HAZELNUT OIL AS AN ALTERNATIVE FUEL FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES. Because of limited fossil fuels and energy crisises, vegetable oils are conserving their place in the technology of new engine fuels as a most important alternative of diesel fuels. Several vegetable oils are tested as an alternative renewable fuel for diesel engines. When vegetable oils are used directly, their higher viscosity causes several application and combustion problems. By considering the studies on using vegetable oils as an alternative fuel for diesel engines, hazelnut methyl ester, which has approximately same with No 2D viscosity fuel, is obtained and it is used on four stroke, single cylinder, air-cooled, direct injection engine. This engine is tested for different loads and revolutions. Engine performance, fuel consumption, temperature of exhaust and emission values are given as depending on engine revolution and are matched with the ones for diesel engines. Results show that hazelnut methyl ester has, especially from point of engine performance, close characteristics with diesel fuels and it could be used as an alternative diesel fuel.
