Abstract

Background and design. Vitiligo is a pigmentary disorder characterized by progressive destruction of melanocytes. Efficacy of the conventional treatment modalities for this disease are limited and new therapeutic approaches are on trial. This study has been designed to disclose histopathological findings in vitiligo and to find out the efficacy of cyclosporin A in this disease. Thus CsA has been used in 10 vitiligo patients intralesionally, twice weekly for 4 weeks. The clinical and histopathological findings before and after treatment were compared. Results. No statistically significant benefit could be obtained by CsA treatment. Conclusion. Cyclosporin may be applied to confined lesions which may cause cosmetic problems in patients who resist to other treatments.
