Görme engelli çocukların ebeveynlerinde dini başa çıkma

Abstract

GÖRME ENGELLİ ÇOCUKLARIN EBEVEYNLERİNDEDİNİ BAŞA ÇIKMAGörme engellilik durumu, doğumla ya da sonradan hastalık, kaza vb. sonucumeydana gelen fiziksel ve duyumsal bir bozukluktur. Görme engelli bireyde,doğumsal ya da küçük yaşta çeşitli hastalıklar yüzünden meydana gelmişse;ebeveynler bu süreçte çocuğunun en büyük destekleyicisi konumundadır. Bu nedenleanne ve babalar görme engelli çocuklarının bir anlamda gözü olmaktadır. Bu zorlusüreçte anne baba anlam arayışına girmekte ve başıma gelen bu durumun benim içinanla mı ne? sorusunu sormaktadır. Engellilik gibi zorluklarla başa çıkma sürecinde,bireyler zaman zaman sahip olduğu inanç sisteminden faydalanma eğilimindeolabilir. Bu çalıĢmada, görme engelli çocuğa sahip anne ve babaların yaĢadıklarısüreci tanımlama, anlamlandırma ve güçlüklerle baş etmede kullanmış oldukları dinibaşa çıkma yöntemleri belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Ailelerin bu durumuanlamlandırırken, pozitif başa çıkma mekanizmalarından imtihan, kader, görevolarak algılamanın yanı sıra negatif başa çıkma mekanizması olan ―cezalandırılma,olumsuza yorma‖ gibi algılara da yer verdikleri tespit edilmiĢtir. Aileler baĢa çıkmasürecinde dini ritüellere daha sık başvurmuşlardır. Kısaca ifade etmek gerekirsearaştırmada, dini inanç ve yaklaşımın engellilikle başa çıkmada pozitif bir katkısınınolduğu görülmüştür.

RELIGIOUS COPING IN THE PARENTS WITH VISUALLY DISABLEDCHILDRENVisual disability is the type of sensory physical disorder present at or nearbirth (congenital) or caused later in life by illness or accident. In the cases, whenvisual disability is congenital or acquired in the early childhood because of variousillnesses; the child‘s parents take over the supporting of the child. Therefore, motherand father become ―the eyes‖ of the child with visual disability. Often parents of thevisually disabled children seek for the meaning of the situation they are in, and askthe question: ―What is the point of my child‘s disability?‖ To cope with everydaydifficulties, individuals tend to seek for the help of the spiritual practices they believein.This research attempts to define some religious coping strategies referred bythe parents of the visually disabled children in order to define the process, assignmeaning to it, and to cope with the challenges of the situation they go through. Whiletrying to make sense of the situation, sometimes parents of the visually disabledchildren refer to the positive coping strategies defining their situtaion as a ‗test‘, a‗destiny‘, or an ‗obligation‘, and less often referring to some negative perceptionssuch as ‗punishment‘. Moreover, within the coping process families start referring tothe religious practices more often. This research shows some positive contributionsof the faith and practicing religion on the process of coping with disability.
