Publication: İstanbul'daki orta sınıfın eğitim tercihleri üzerinden habitus oluşumu
Abstract
Bu tez çalışması; Türkiye’de eğitim alanında yaşanan özelleştirme süreciyle orta sınıfların toplumsal konumlarını yeniden üretmek için oluşturdukları habitusu, Bahçeşehir özelinde yapılan nitel araştırma yöntemi ile elde edilen verilere dayanarak keşfetmektedir. Pierre Bourdieu’nun toplumsal pratikleri açıklamada kullandığı temel kavramlardan biri olan habitus; bireylerin içselleştirdiği eğilimler sistemi olarak açıklanmaktadır. Çalışma üç bölümden oluşmaktadır: Birinci bölümde bu nitel araştırmanın metodolojisi, Ekim 2018 ile Mayıs 2019 ayları arasında İstanbul ilinin Başakşehir ilçesine bağlı Bahçeşehir 1. ve 2. Kısım Mahallelerinde yürütülen saha araştırmasının tanıtımı yapılmıştır. İkinci bölümde çalışmada kullanılan orta sınıf kavramsallaştırması, düşünce aracı olarak habitus kavramı, İstanbul’da yaşanan kentleşme ile orta sınıfların temsili mekânlarının incelenmesi ve neoliberal politikaların etkisiyle eğitim alanında yaşanan özelleşme süreci anlatılmaktadır. Üçüncü bölümde saha verileri doğrultusunda Bahçeşehirli orta sınıf ailelerin eğitim alanında habitusunu inşa eden öğeler analiz edilmiştir. Ardından Bahçeşehir’deki ebeveynlerin, çocuklarının geleceklerine dair duydukları kaygıların orta sınıf fraksiyonlarınca oluşmuş habitustan kaynaklandığı ve toplumsal pratiklerin yeniden üretimini desteklediği keşfedilmiştir.
This thesis analyzes the middle-classes making of habitus to reproduce their social position during the privatization process experienced in the field of education in Turkey, based on the data obtained from the qualitative research method in Bahçeşehir. One of the fundamental concepts used by Pierre Bourdieu in explaining social practices is habitus; it is explained as a system of tendencies in which individuals have internalized. The study consists of three chapters: In the first part, the methodology of this qualitative research was presented by introducing the field research conducted in Bahçeşehir 1st and 2nd Part Neighborhoods of Başakşehir district of Istanbul between October 2018 and May 2019. In the second part, the conceptualization of the middle-class used in the study, concept of habitus as a means of thought the urbanization in Istanbul with the examination of the representative spaces of the middle-classes and the process of privatization in the field of education with the effect of neoliberal policies were explained. In the third part, the elements that build the habitus of middle-class families of Bahçeşehir in the education field were analyzed according to the field data. It was later discovered that the concerns of parents in Bahçeşehir about their children's future originated from the habitus formed by the middle-class fractions and supported the reproduction of social practices.
