Abstract
The increasing consumption of energy and the_x000D_
greenhouse-gas emissions are challenges in the transport and_x000D_
building sectors. Compared to the other transportation types_x000D_
public railway transport systems are the most energy efficient_x000D_
regarding carbon footprint. Modern urban railway public_x000D_
transport systems have the significant advantages of large_x000D_
passenger capacity, punctuality, safety, going green in the urban_x000D_
environment and reducing carbon footprint, is a scientific_x000D_
consensus. However, the energy demand for railways are_x000D_
increasing in proportion to passenger load, require implementing_x000D_
innovative solutions for optimizing the energy consumption and_x000D_
reducing carbon emission. Leadership in Energy and_x000D_
Environmental Design (LEED) is a building rating system used_x000D_
worldwide. The credit categories of the LEED consist of seven_x000D_
different topics from the Energy and Atmosphere to Materials_x000D_
and Resources. In this study, the LEED certification application_x000D_
to railway station and facilities will be discussed mainly energy_x000D_
efficiency criteria.
