Self-esteem and self-efficacy perception for music talent in children participating and not participating in music activities

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, ilköğretim okullarında ders dışı müziksel etkinliklere katılan ve katılmayan öğrencilerin müzik yeteneklerine yönelik özyeterlik algıları ve benlik saygısı düzeyleri arasında fark olup olmadığının belirlenmesidir. Araştırmanın bir diğer amacı ise, benlik saygısı ile müzik yeteneğine yönelik özyeterlik algısı arasında ilişki olup olmadığının saptanmasıdır. Araştırma, özel ilköğretim okullarının 5., 6., 7. ve 8. sınıflarında öğrenim gören 77 öğrencinin oluşturduğu araştırma grubu üzerinden yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın verileri Müzik Yeteneğine Yönelik Özyeterlik Ölçeği, Coopersmith Benlik Saygısı Envanteri ve Kişisel Bilgi Formu ile toplanmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre, ders dışı müziksel etkinliklere katılan ve katılmayan öğrencilerin müzik yeteneklerine yönelik özyeterlik algıları ve benlik saygısı düzeyleri arasında, ders dışı müziksel etkinliklere katılan öğrencilerin lehine olumlu yönde anlamlı bir fark bulunmuştur. Ayrıca, müzik yeteneğine yönelik özyeterlik algısı ile benlik saygısı arasında olumlu yönde anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu saptanmıştır.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a significant difference between selfefficacy and the levels of self-esteem of the students who attend extracurricular musical activities in primary schools and those who do not. Another purpose of the research is to find out whether there is any significant relationship between self-esteem and self-efficacy in musical talent. The research group is composed of 77 students studying in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades of private primary schools. Data were collected using the Self-Efficacy In Musical Talent Scale, Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory and Personal Information Form. According to data obtained, a significant difference was found in favor of the students attending extracurricular musical activities between the self-efficacy and levels of self-esteem of the students who attend extracurricular musical activities in primary schools and those who do not. Furthermore, it was confirmed that there is a positive, significant relationship between self-esteem and self-efficacy in musical talent.
