Abstract
DETERMING THE INFORMATION LEVELS ABOUT THE INFECTING AND PROTECTING WAYS OF HCV FOR THE NURSES WORKING IN THE HEMODIALYSIS UNITS
This study is a definitive analytical study which is intended to determine the information levels about the infecting and protecting ways of HCV for the nurses working in the hemodialysis (HD) units. The study was carried out with 119 nurses that were reached and are working in Istanbul University Capa Medicine Faculty Hospital, Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medicine Faculty Hospital, Marmara University Hospital, Haydarpasa Numune Hospital, Goztepe SSK Education and Research Hospital, Samatya SSK Education and Research Hospital dialysis units and with 7 private dialysis centres that take part within the boundaries of Istanbul Province and accepted the study, between the dates 01 st March 2001-30 th January 2002. The data were collected by means of a form of investigation composing of 30 questions, which are prepared by the researchers and developed by taking the opinions of the experts. The statistical analysis of the obtained data was performed by means of using ki-kare, student + test, single direction variance analysis and fishers definite ki-kare test by the specialists with the package program of SPSS through the computer. There is a meaningful difference statistically (p<0,05) between the age group and number of years to work as a nurse in the event of pricking with a patient pin with HCV positive feature into the hands of the HD nurses, however there was not discovery any meaningful difference between the marital status., educational situation and number of years to work in the HD units(p>0,05). While there was not discovered a meaningful difference statistically (p>0,05) in terms of carrying out a HCV infection examination after pricking with a patient pin having HCV positive feature into the hands, but there was discovered a meaningful difference statistically between the exposed and unexposed groups in respect to the pin with HCV positive feature. As a result, it was finally determined that the information levels of the HO nurses about infecting and protecting ways of HCV were considered sufficient (p<0,05, p<0,01)
