Publication: Genç basketbolcularda myofasyal gevşetme tekniğinin performans parametreleri ve sakatlanma riski üzerindeki etkinliğinin araştırılması
Abstract
Objective: This study was designed to investigate the effects of myofascial release technique applied to young basketball players on vertical jump, agility, balance, muscle strength, muscle viscoelasticity parameters and injury risk. Materials and Methods: Sixty young male basketball players were randomly selected and included in the intervention or control groups. After obtaining demographic information from the athletes in both groups, functional movement screen (FMS) test, agility t-test, vertical jump test, muscle strength test, muscle viscoelasticity parameter measurements and star excursionbalance test (SEBT) were performed on the athletes. The intervention and control groups were assessed at the beginning and sixth week of the study. The control group was evaluated at the twelfth week. The intervention group (n=30) received myofascial release technique twice a week for six weeks before routine training. The control group (n=30) received no application for the first six weeks, except for routine training. Between the sixth and twelfth weeks, the control group received myofascial release technique twice a week for six weeks before routine training. Results: When the data between the groups were analyzed in the first six-week period; statistically significant differences were observed between the groups in FMS total score, agility t-test, muscle strength test, vertical jump test, SEBT, muscle elasticity and stiffness (p <0.05). Statistically significant differences (p <0.05) were also detected in deep squat, hurdle step, shoulder mobility and active straight leg raise tests from FMS parameters. When the data between the sixth and twelfth weeks were analyzed in the control group; statistically significant differences were observed in FMS total score, agility t-test, vertical jump test, SEBT, muscle elasticity and stiffness (p <0.05). Statistically significant differences (p <0.05) were detected in all parameters except rotation stability from FMS parameters. Conclusion: Our study's results show that the myofascial release technique improves performance parameters and reduces the risk of injury in young male basketball players.
