Publication: Kanserli hastalara bakım veren aile üyelerinin yaşadığı sorunların çözümünde masajın etkinliği
Abstract
Effects of Massage in Solution of Problems Experienced by Cancer Patients’ Family Caregivers The study was done among 44 cancer patients’ family caregivers (22 intervention, 22 control) to explore effects of chair massage in solution problems experienced by them. The subjects in the intervention group has received chair massage during 15 minutes per day for a week. In whole sample, we evaluated sleep quality, state anxiety, level of fatigue, as well as caregiver reactions points, we measured blood pressure and pulse, we took blood sample for cortisol examination at the begining of the study and end of the a week. In this study, first of all, we evaluated reliability and validity of The Caregiver Reaction Assessment in 136 subject. The results of cronbach's alpha coefficients, item-total correlations as well as construct, discriminant, concurrent, divergent validity were satisfactory. Construct validity analysis yielded four factors. We observed that chair massage has made positive changes on sleep quality (p<0.001), state anxiety (p<0.001), energy level (p<0.01), systolic/ diastolic blood pressure (p<0.001, p<0.01 respectively), pulse rate (p<0.001), and cortisol level (p<0.05). In conclusion, we showed that massage was effective to solve problems experienced by cancer patients’ family caregivers. Key words: Anxiety, blood pressure, cortisol level, family caregivers of cancer patients, fatigue, heart rate, massage, sleep.
