Publication: Cinsiyet tartışmalarında doğal yaklaşımın analizi : nitel bir araştırma
Abstract
Geleneksel toplumlarda var olan yerleşik toplumsal normların modern, geç-modern yahut postmodern topluma geçişle birlikte sorgulandığı, geleneksel toplumsal normların yapı-söküme uğratılıp yerine modern/ post-modern normların yerleştirilmek istendiği birçok sosyolojik çalışmada ifade edilmiştir. Modernitenin yahut post-modernitenin bu sarsıcı etkisinden cinsiyet normları da etkilenmiş; cinsiyetin biyolojik temeli dışlanarak toplumsal belirleyicilik esas alınmış, kuir (queer) teorinin biyolojik cinsiyetin yanı sıra toplumsal cinsiyeti de yapı söküme uğratması neticesinde akışkan cinsiyet yaklaşımı yükselişe geçmiştir. Bu çalışma ise, cinsiyet tartışmalarında biyolojik temelin önemine dikkat çeken doğal cinsiyet yaklaşımını ve bu yaklaşımı benimseyen toplumsal aktörlerin günümüz cinsiyet tartışmalarını nasıl anlamlandırdıklarını nitel bir araştırma ile tespit etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Ayrıca çalışma, cinsiyet tartışmaları bağlamında doğal cinsiyet yaklaşımına sahip öznelerin LGBTQ+ aktivizmine dair öznel yorumlarını ve deneyimlerini ele almaktadır. Doğal cinsiyet yaklaşımının cinsiyet tartışmalarını nasıl anlamlandırdığını nitel araştırma yönteminin imkanları ve yorumlayıcı fenomenolojik desenle inceleyen çalışmada, bu yaklaşımı benimseyen ve kamuoyu tarafından fikirleriyle tanınan on yedi (17) katılımcı ile yarı yapılandırılmış derinlemesine mülakatlar yapılmış, toplanan veriler içerik analizi tekniği kullanılarak MAXQDA 2020 aracılığıyla kodlanmış, kategorilendirilmiş ve temalar oluşturulmuştur. Saha verilerinin yorumlanmasından hareketle, katılımcıların cinsiyet tartışmalarında yer alan kavramları ve LGBTQ+ aktivizmi fenomenini dinî, psikososyal, kültürel ve bilimsel bir perspektifle ele aldıkları anlaşılmıştır. Katılımcılar tarafından cinsiyetin biyolojik temele sahip olduğu vurgulanmakla birlikte cinsiyet kimliği gelişiminde ve cinsiyet rollerinin şekillenmesinde psikososyal ve teolojik temellerin dikkate alındığı görülmüştür. Bunun yanı sıra, katılımcılar tarafından LGBTQ+ aktivizmi ile LGBTQ+ bireyler arasında açık bir ayrım yapıldığı tespit edilmiştir. Bu minvalde, LGBTQ+ aktivizminin geleneksel cinsiyet normlarını dönüştürmeyi amaçlayan politik bir hareket olarak işaretlendiği; LGBTQ+ bireylere yönelik yorumlarda ise insanî bir perspektifin merkeze alındığı anlaşılmıştır. Saha bulgularının yorumlanması sonucunda cinsiyet fenomenine yönelik doğal yaklaşım (natural approach), aktivizmin akışkan bir zeminde gerçekleştirdiği yoğun kavram inşasına yönelik söylem karmaşası (discourse confusion) ve cinsiyet değiştirme ameliyatlarının öncesinde, esnasında ve sonrasında ortaya çıkan giderlerden hareketle trans pazarı (trans market) kavramları ortaya konmuştur. Çalışma, doğal cinsiyet yaklaşımı başlığı altında biyolojik temeli dikkate alan öznelerin cinsiyet tartışmalarına verdikleri anlamı ele alması bakımından literatürdeki önemli bir boşluğu doldurmak üzere mütevazı bir katkı sunmayı hedeflemektedir.
In numerous sociological studies, it has been stated that established social norms existing in traditional societies have been questioned with the transition to modern, late-modern, or post-modern society, where traditional social norms have been deconstructed and replaced with modern/ post-modern norms. Gender norms have also been affected by this disruptive impact of modernity or post-modernity; the biological basis of gender has been excluded, emphasizing social determinism, and as a result of queer theory's deconstruction of both biological sex and gender, the fluid gender approach has gained prominence. This study aims to identify through qualitative research the natural gender approach that emphasizes the importance of biological foundations in gender debates and how social actors who adopt this approach make sense of contemporary gender discussions. Additionally, the study addresses the subjective interpretations and experiences of subjects with a natural gender approach regarding LGBTQ+ activism in the context of gender debates. Examining how the natural gender approach makes sense of gender debates through the possibilities of qualitative research methodology and phenomenological design, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with seventeen (17) participants who adopt this approach and are known to the public for their ideas. The collected data were coded, categorized, and themes were formed using content analysis technique through MAXQDA 2020 software. Based on the interpretation of field data, it was understood that participants addressed the concepts in gender debates and the LGBTQ+ activism phenomenon from religious, psychosocial, cultural, and scientific perspectives. While participants emphasized that gender has a biological foundation, it was observed that psychosocial and theological foundations were taken into consideration in gender identity development and the shaping of gender roles. Furthermore, it was determined that participants made a clear distinction between LGBTQ+ activism and LGBTQ+ individuals. In this regard, it was understood that LGBTQ+ activism was marked as a political movement aimed at transforming traditional gender norms, while a humanistic perspective was centered in interpretations regarding LGBTQ+ individuals. As a result of the interpretation of the research findings, three key concepts have been identified: the natural approach toward the gender phenomenon, discourse confusion regarding the intensive concept construction that activism performs on a fluid ground, and the trans market based on the expenses that emerge before, during, and after gender reassignment surgeries. This study aims to make a modest contribution to filling a significant gap in the literature by addressing the meaning that subjects who consider the biological foundation give to gender debates under the title of natural gender approach.
