Türk fotoğrafının kültürel kimliği ve gelişimi

Abstract

Bir ülke fotoğrafını anlamak ve anlamlandırmak için öncelikle o ülkede fotoğrafın yaşadığı tarihsel süreçlere göz atmak gerekmektedir. Bu yolla o ülke fotoğrafının gelinen noktada içinde bulunduğu durum net bir şekilde ortaya çıkacaktır. Türkiye’de fotoğrafın Osmanlı imparatorluğunun son dönemlerinde ve Türkiye Cumhuriyetinin kuruluşundan günümüze kadar olan süreç içersindeki gelişimi dönemlere ayrılarak ve yaşadığı temel sorunlar incelenerek Türk fotoğrafının tarihsel sürecinin kavranması ve günümüzde gelinen noktada Türk fotoğrafının bir kimlik kazanıp kazanmadığı sorunsalının netleştirilmesi hedeflenmiştir. Osmanlı imparatorluğundan cumhuriyet dönemine geçiş aşamasında fotoğraf alanında yaşanan gelişmeler, 1923–1960 arası ‘Romantik Dönem’de Cumhuriyetin kurumasıyla uygulanmaya başlanan eğitim ve kültür politikalarının amaçları doğrultusunda yeni kurulan ülkenin dünyaya tanıtılması ve “ulus” olma bilincinin yerleştirilmeye çalışılmasında fotoğrafın rolü ve fotoğraf alanındaki gelişmeler araştırılmıştır. 1960–1980 arası ‘Sosyal Gerçekçi’ dönemde dünyadaki ve ülkemizde siyasi ve ekonomik gelişmeler doğrultusunda Türk fotoğrafın içinde bulunduğu durum ve işlediği konuları irdelenmiştir. 1980–1995 arası ‘Soyut Dışavurumcu’ dönemde ise Türk fotoğrafı değişik arayışlar içine girmiştir. Deneysel ve kurgusal fotoğrafın yükselişe geçtiği, fotoğraf eğitiminin akademik düzeyde yaygınlaştığı bu dönem incelenmiştir. Son olarak günümüzde Türk fotoğrafının geldiği noktada tespit edilen ana sorunlar tarihi perspektif içinde ele alınarak incelenmiştir.

To be able to understand the photography of a country and to give it a meaning, we should first look at the historical process that this countries photography has lived. The evolution of photography in Turkey is analyzed from the last periods of the Ottoman empire and the beginnings of the Turkish republic until the present. This evolution is divided in parts and the basic problems have been analysed. The goal here is to make the historical evolution of Turkish photography understandable and to understand whether Turkish photography has gained an identity. The developments in photography have been analysed for the period in which the Ottoman empire was passing into the Republican period as for the “Romantic period” between 1923-1960, in which the influence of photography and the developments in the area of photography have also been investigated in the practices on the introduction of the newly build state and the installation of the “nation” concept. The situation of Turkish photography during the “Social realist” period, between 1960-1980 and accompanied by political and economic developments in the world and in Turkey, has also been investigated. Between 1980-1995 Turkish photography was after different searches during the “Abstract expressionist” periode. This period in which experimental and fictive photography was arising and photography education was spreading on academic level has been analysed too. At last the problems that have been identified in Turkish photography at the present time are investigated within historical perspective.
