Publication: The effects of perceived political climate and environmental annoyances on employees' career change intention : the mediating role of subjective happiness and the moderating role of existential quest
Abstract
The study aims to investigate the effects of the perceived political climate and perceived environmental annoyances on employees' career change intention. The mediating role of subjective happiness and the moderating role of the existential quest are also explored.A total of 204 white-collar employees from the private sector based in Istanbul participated in this study. The hypotheses were tested through multiple regression analysis. Furthermore, independent sample t-tests and one-way ANOVA were utilized for the demographic variables. The research results showed that the arbitrariness dimension of perceived political climate and employees' career change intention were positively related. The relationship between perceived environmental annoyances and career change intention, on the other hand, was not found significant. Subjective happiness was found to have a partial mediating effect on the relationship between the traffic dimension of perceived environmental annoyances and career change intention. However, the moderating role of the existential quest was not found. Furthermore, the demographic variables made no difference in terms of career change intention. The possible reasons for these results were argued in the discussion section in detail. Lastly, theoretical and practical suggestions for future research were proposed.
