Joint vibration analysis for temporomandibular joint in pediatric patients

Abstract

Çocuklarda Temporomandibular Eklem Bozuklukları günümüzde yaygın bir orofasiyal durum olarak kabul edilmektedir. Çocuklarda ve erken ergenlerde birçok TMD çalışması yapılır, ancak bu yaş grubunda prevalansı belirlemek zordur. Bununla birlikte, bu hastalıkların erken teşhisinin, ilerlemenin önlenmesi ve çene fonksiyon bozukluğunun azaltılması için büyük önem taşıdığını söyleyebiliriz.Günümüzde, BioRESEARCH tarafından Joint Vibration Analysis (Eklem Titreşim Analizi) adı verilen yeni bir teknik, dişhekiminin kondilin durumunu ölçmesine izin veren ve sadece statik bir görüntü değil, dinamik fonksiyon hakkında bilgi veren bir tekniktir.Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı çocuk ve erken ergen hastalarda JVA gibi hızlı invaziv olmayan bu tarama tekniğini hiçbir şikayeti olmadan kullanmak ve aynı zamanda sol ve sağ eklem değerlerini karşılaştırmaktı. Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu amaçla Aydın Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesine başvuran 10-18 yaş arası 50 çocuk rastgele seçildi ve çalışmaya dahil edildi. Bu çocukların her biri için tıbbi durum tespit edildi ve JVA parametreleri kaydedildi. İstatistiksel Analiz SPSS (22 version )istatistik yazılımı kullanılarak yapıldı.Bulgular: JVA'nın cinsiyete göre belirlediği parametreler arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark yoktur. Ayrıca dikkate aldığımız deneklerin sağ ve sol eklemleri arasında istatistiksel olarak bir fark yoktu. Sonuç: Bu çalışmada JVA cihazının erken yaşlarda Temporomandibuler eklem hastalığının erken teşhisinde faydalı olduğu sonucuna vardık. Asemptomatik hastalarda da TME rahatsızlıklarını gösterebilen invaziv olmayan hızlı ve düşük maliyetli bir cihazdır. Gelecekte dejeneratif koşulları önlemek için kullanışlıdır.

Background: Temporomandibular Joint Disorders in children are considered a common orofacial condition nowadays. Many studies of TMD in children and early adolesents are performed but it is difficult to establish the prevalence in this group of age. However we can say that early diagnosis of this disorders its of big importance in order to prevent the progression and reduce jaw disfunction.Nowadays a new technique called Joint Vibration Analysis is introduced by BioRESEARCH which allows the dentist to measure the condition of condyles and gives information on the dynamic function not just a static image.Aim: The aim of this study was to use this fast non invasive screening technique such as JVA in pediatric and early adolescent patients without any complain and also compare the values of left and right joint. Material and Method: For this purpose 50 children aged 10-18 who applied to Dentistry Faculty of Aydın University was randomly selected and included in this study. The medical status was obtained for each of this children and JVA recording was made. Statistical Analysis was performed using SPSS statistical software version 22 for Windows. Results: there is no significant difference statistically between the parametres of JVA acoording to the gender and also there was no statisticlly difference between the right and left joint in the group of subjects that we took in consideration. Conclusion: In this study we concluded that JVA device is useful in early diagnosis of Temporomandibular joint condition in early age. It is a non invasive fast and low cost device that can show disorders of TMJ also in asymptomatic patients. It is useful in order to prevent degenerative conditions in the future.
