Publication: İtfaiyecilerin fiziksel uygunluk parametrelerinin belirlenmesi
Abstract
DETERMINATION OF PHYSICAL FITNESS PARAMETERS FOR FIRE-FIGHTERS The required physical fitness parameters for the Istanbul firefighters, which will help to determine the concordance between the physical fitness parameters and job-related performance test parameters of firefighters in Istanbul, will be investigated for the first time in our country. The study groups consisted of 79 male firefighters in Istanbul and a control group consisted of 20 persons from academic environment having irregular sports both between the ages of 25 – 35. Body Mass Index, flexibility, strength, cardiovascular endurance tests were performed for the physical fitness measurements. Beam walking, forced entry, victim rescue, ladder climbing, hose advancing tests was performed for the job-related performance measurements. The independent sample t-test was used for the inter-group comparisons and Pearson's correlation test for the relations between the physical fitness parameters of firefighters and the completion times for the job-related performance test. Firefighters’ MaxVO2, strength and flexibility values were higher compared to control group’s (p<0,01). A remarkably significant (p<0,01) relation was found between physical fitness parameters and the results in the job-related performance tests for the firefighters including the measurements for; the total time of completion, beam walking, victim rescue, ladder carrying, ladder climbing, hose advancing and holding.
