Objective: Female sexual dysfunction has a high prevalence in the general population. The reliability and validity of the use of the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) among Turkish women with a primary clinical diagnosis of breast cancer is examined. Material and Methods: The Female Sexual Function Index is a self-reporting measure of sexual function that has been validated on a representative sample of women clinically diagnosed with female sexual arousal disorder. The present review provides information about the factorial validity and reliability analysis among 190 women. Information regarding language, content and construct validity, reliability on test-retest, testing of the internal consistency and item-total correlations is provided. The study was approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of the University of Marmara. All participants were informed and consented. SPSS for Windows, version 11.00, was used for the anaylses and charts. Results: Participants ranged in age between 30-70 years of age; a high percentage of these were women with secondary education (40%), or housewives (58.9%). The range of internal consistency coefficient was between 0.70 and 0.96, the average Cronbach alpha value was 0.98 among the women with breast cancer, and test-retest reliability measured over a one-month interval was found to be r = 0.75. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that the FSFI is a reliable and valid measure of sexual function among Turkish women. Copyright © 2005 by Türkiye Klinikleri.
