Publication: Kuzey Kıbrıs Güzelyurt, Girne ve Mağusa körfezlerinde ağır metal kirliliğinin incelenmesi
Abstract
THE OBSERVING OF THE HEAVY METAL POLLUTION IN THE GULFS OF THE NORTHERN CYPRUS GUZELYURT, GIRNE AND MAGUSA The purpose of this study is to observe the heavy metal pollution and to protect the economical marine livings in the territorial and open seas of the Turkish Republic of the Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Turkish Repuclic of the Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is very important statue for fishery and turizm sector, so that the water pollution have to be observed and taken under control. The data that obtained from this study can be accepted as the first step for the protection of the area. In this study, which is named as: “The Observing of The Heavy Metal Pollution In Gulfs of The Northern Cyprus Guzelyurt, Gırne and Magusa”, 60 samples were used. Samples were collected from the Gulf of Güzelyurt, Girne Area, Taşlıca Area and the Gulf of Mağusa on June, July, August and Septemper 2002 and for two months from on September 2005 to April 2006 at 38 station. The samples which were collected periodly from surface sea were reached to Marmara University by Prof. Dr. Işık Oray from Turkish Repuclic of the Northern Cyprus. The samples were reacted with nitric acid and keep in a dark room for extraction processing for a while at first. After the extraction process with the organic phase was evaporated and the remaining part was solved with one mol of HCl. The concentrations of the samples were measured by Atomic Absorbsion Spectroscopy (ZEEnit 700) under the flame mode and following metals were measured; Fe, Mn, Cd, Ni, Cu, Cr, Zn, Co and Pb. At the end of the research, we determined that the Fe concentration reached the highest value at the Gulf of Güzelyurt and Gulf of Mağusa, the Mn concentration reached the highest value at different areas in the third and the ninth months, the highest value the concentration of Zn was observed in the Girne area, the Gulf of Mağusa and the Gulf of Güzelyurt. The Ni concentration in Taşlıca Area was higher than the others areas. Cr and Pb were determined from all areas at low and high concentration. Co concentration in the Gulf of Güzelyurt was higher than the other areas.
