Covid Döneminde Radikalleşen Zaman ve Mekân: İletişim Araçları Örneği

Abstract

Bu makalenin amacı, Covid dönemi boyunca tecrübe edilen zamanın ve mekânın teknolojik determinist perspektiften hareketle, sosyolojik bir okumasını gerçekleştirmektir. Zaman ve mekân insan açısından yaşamın en temel unsurlarından biri olmasına rağmen tarihin her döneminde deneyimlenme biçimleri itibariyle değişiklikler göstermektedir. Bu bağlamda tarihsel açıdan farklı bir dönem yaşanmaya başlamış ve yaşanmaya devam edilmektedir. İçinde bulunulan dönemi tanımlayan ana unsur makale boyunca Covid olmakta ve Covid’in neden oldukları iletişim araçları örnekleminde, içeriğe değinilmeden teknolojik determinist bir bakış açısıyla sosyolojik analize tabi tutulmaktadır. Analizin çerçevesini oluşturan sosyolojik yaklaşım doğrultusunda iletişim araçlarının insanın deneyim alanını zaman ve mekân ölçeğinde nasıl radikalleştirdiği incelenmektir. Teknolojik determinizm gereği herhangi bir iletişim aracının içeriği yerine bu araçların ortak kodlarına değinerek betimleyici bir yaklaşım sergilenmektedir. Çalışma boyunca zaman ve mekân pratiklerinin analizinde Anthony Giddens, David Harvey ve Stephen Kern gibi düşünürlerden beslenilmekte ve Covid dönemi öncesinden tamamen ayrılan yeni bir zamanın ve mekânın deneyimlenmediği iddia edilmektedir. Bu çalışmada Covid döneminde zamanın ve mekânın toplumsal açıdan belirli değişimler yaşadığı bilinmekle birlikte hem zaman hem de mekân için net sınırlar çizmek yerine belirsizleştirilmiş bir iletişim ağının ve pratiğinin oluşturulduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. The aim of this article is to carry out a sociological reading of time and space experienced during the Covid period from a technological determinist perspective. Although time and space are one of the most basic elements of life for human beings, they show changes in the way they are experienced in all periods of history. In this context, a different historical period has begun and continues to be experienced. The main element that defines the current period is Covid throughout the article, and in the sample of communication tools caused by Covid, it is subjected to sociological analysis from a technological determinist point of view without mentioning the content. In line with the sociological approach that constitutes the framework of the analysis, it is examined how the communication tools radicalize the human experience area at the scale of time and space. Due to technological determinism, a descriptive approach is exhibited by referring to the common codes of these tools instead of the content of any communication tool. In the analysis of time and space practices throughout the study, it is fed by thinkers such as Anthony Giddens, David Harvey and Stephen Kern, and it is claimed that a new time and space that is completely separated from the preCovid period has not been experienced. In this study, although it is known that time and space experienced certain social changes during the Covid period, it was concluded that an obscure communication network and practice was created instead of drawing clear boundaries for both time and space.
