“Türkiye’nin doğal zenginliklerinin sürdürülebilirliği” ve ortaöğretim biyoloji öğretmenlerinde farkındalık

Abstract

“TÜRKİYE’NİN DOĞAL ZENGİNLİKLERİNİN SÜRDÜRÜLEBİLİRLİĞİ” VE ORTAÖĞRETİM BİYOLOJİ ÖĞRETMENLERİNDE FARKINDALIK Çalışma lise biyoloji öğretmenlerinde, “doğal kaynakların sürdürülebilirliği” ile ilgili “farkındalığı” belirlemek amacı ile yapılmıştır. Bu çalışmada nitel araştırma metotları kullanılmış ve veriler odak grup görüşmesi ile toplanmıştır. Çalışmaya İstanbul ili, Anadolu yakasında bulunan dört ilçenin okullarından dokuz biyoloji öğretmeni katılmıştır. Öğretmenlerin çevreye yönelik ilgileri görüşme formu ile öğrenilmiştir. Odak grup çalışması için hazırlanan sorular önceden planlanarak, iki ana kategoriye ayrılmış ve her kategorinin altında tekrardan boyutlandırılmıştır. Birinci kategoride çevre eğitimi ile ilgili görüşleri, ikinci kategoride ise doğal zenginlikler ve sürdürülebilirlikle ilgili görüşleri video filmlerinin ve ses kayıt cihazlarının çözümleri yapılarak analiz edilmiştir. Analiz sonucunda, öğretmenlerin doğaya karşı ilgi duydukları ama doğal kaynakları ve sürdürülebilirlik kavramını tam olarak tanımadıkları saptanmıştır. Sadece ekolojik terim ve tanımları verdikleri öğretmen merkezli stratejiler uyguladıkları belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin çevresel bilinç ve farkındalığa sahip olmaları için gerekli olan problem çözme, proje yürütme, saha çalışmaları gibi öğrenciyi merkeze alan öğretim yöntemleri kullanmadıkları ortaya çıkmıştır. Ayrıca öğretmenler, müfredatın da proje ve araştırmaya yönelik yeniden yapılandırılması gerekliliği üzerinde durmuşlardır. “SUSTAINABILITY OF TURKEY’S NATURAL RESOURCES” AND AWARENESS OF HIGH SCHOOL BIOLOGY TEACHERS This study was conducted to determine the “awareness” of high-school biology teachers on “sustainability of natural resources”. Qualitative research methods were used in this study and data were collected through focus group interview. Nine high-school biology teachers participated in this research from four different schools of Istanbul. A form was used to gather teachers’ interest on the environment. Questions for focus groups were prepared and divided into two categories, then resized in within each category. Video and audio recordings were used to analyze participants thinking about environmental education for the first category natural resources and sustainability for the second category. Analyses show that the teachers were interested in the environment; however, they did not exactly understand the concept of sustainability and natural resources. According to the study, teachers applied the strategies of teacher centered education in which they taught only the terminologies and definitions on ecology. Additionally, they did not use the student centered strategies such as problem solving, project based learning and field studies to motivate them on environmental consciousness and environmental awareness. Moreover, teachers highlighted the need on improvement of curriculum to include projects and researches. They indicated that their need of in-service training on education for sustainable environment which organized student centered. Key Words: Sustainability, natural resources, teacher, awareness
