Publication: Kısıtlı mekan-mobilya çözümlerinde çağdaş yaklaşımlar
Abstract
The thesis deals with the limited spaces and furniture analysis appearing as a result of the cultural, economic, sociological and technological development in contemporary countries. Limited spaces are examined not only in the scale of residence, but also as monofunction-oriented volumes. The former and contemporary dimensions of the limited spaces that have developed at the industrial revolution and afterwards are analyzed as indicators, and the hints regarding the future tendencies are given. The sections forming the thesis and their contents are as follow: In the first section, the historical development process of the space and the furniture that has been affected directly are examined. In this process, the sense of life in the limited spaces appearing with utopian ideas is analyzed with consciously designed and generated projects throughout history. In the second section, the components such as design, designer and user directly affecting the formation, setup of the limited spaces are emphasized. As the limited spaces can be a part of a structure in addition to being masses on their own, they are examined in every scale as being structure, interiorspace and furniture. Furthermore, the design analysis for this type of small volumes, the approaches of the designer through the inspiration process, the user who is a determinative factor with his/ her physiological and psychological dimensions is emphasized. The third section is the part where the formation principles of the space-furniture conception have been analyzed with the examples over the form grammar, which is always connected with form, function and construction. In the fourth section, case studies, comparisons and analysis are made within the principles examined about the limited spaces. The general evaluation and result is the part in which the sample cases, principlesexamined throughout the thesis, the findings achieved with the comparison and analysisare discussed and the original ideas take place. The opinions regarding the formation of the environment, technology, social, economic conditions formed in the direction of the design principles, appearance of the new concepts such as flexibility and mobility and that the space becomes limited but multifunctional beyond being a shelter are given place.
