Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of parents' child rearing behavior on school readiness of 5–6 year-old children in terms of socio-emotional development. The study sample consisted of 300 preschool children at 5, 5.5, and 6 years of age. The results revealed that parents' behaviour with regard to the following activities all have a positive impact on school readiness in terms of socio-emotional dimension: reading books to children, joining in playing games with them, visiting movies and theatres, engaging in family conversations, giving responsibilities to their children with regular following up of these responsibilities, agreeing rules together, and fair use of reward and punishment in child rearing to change behaviors. © 2010 A B Academic Publishers Printed in Great Britain.
