Studies on goat hydroxyapatite/commercial inert glass biocomposites
    (SPRINGER, 2019) OKTAR, FAİK NÜZHET; Akyurt, N.; Yetmez, M.; Oktar, F. N.
In this study, mechanical properties and microstructural analysis of goat-derived hydroxyapatite/commercial inert glass biocomposites are considered in the temperature range between 1000 and 1300 degrees C. The results indicate that the best values of maximum compressive strength and microhardness are achieved in the samples sintered at 1200 degrees C for the glass in the weight of 5 and 10%. Moreover, above 1000 degrees C, decomposition of hydroxyapatite and new phase formations such as whitlockite and silicocarnotite play also a major role in the hardness and strength for goat hydroxyapatite/commercial inert glass biocomposites.

The aim of this study was to determine the attitude towards the socio-economic conditions and demographic characteristics and the university life of medical students. To determine the students' socio-demographic characteristics Personal Information Form was used developed by researchers according to literature. The form contains expressions of the students such as the economic situation, future concerns, finding a job, university life, social & recreational activities, build up relationships with people and parents education level. Target group of the study were 349 students from Marmara University Vocational School of health. The environment of the survey was limited to the students studying in all programs at Marmara University Vocational School of Health. The research was carried out with students at Marmara University Vocational School of Health in the fall semester of 2014-2015.

Radiology Technologists' Perspective on Medical Imaging Device Use and Related Technologies: a Cross-sectional Survey with Respect to Hospital Type
    (2022-09-01) AKYURT, NURAN; Akyurt N.
This study aimed to evaluate radiology technicians\" view on the use of medical imaging devices and related technology. A total of 142 radiology technicians from Turkey were included on a voluntary basis in this cross-sectional questionnaire-based study. The questionnaire form elicited items on sociodemographic and occupational characteristics and personal opinions regarding the use of medical imaging devices and related technology. Majority of technicians agreed or strongly agreed that they prefer the latest technology medical imaging devices (32.4 and 54.2%) and there is an increase in the number of medical imaging devices (36.6 and 35.9%) and medical imaging examinations (32.4 and 43.7%), while the growing societal demands in field of health have a role in the increase in the number of medical imaging devices (34.5 and 32.4%). However, a relatively lower percentage of technicians agreed or strongly agreed that the latest technology medical imaging devices should be purchased no matter how much it costs (31.7 and 33.8%) and the yearly increase in the number of imaging examinations indicates provision of an improved healthcare (21.1 and 23.2%). A higher agreement was reported by private hospital (3.9 +/- 1.1, p = 0.035) and university hospital (4.1 +/- 1.1, p = 0.009) employees vs. state hospital employees (3.4 +/- 1.3) on the growing societal demands in field of health to have a role in the increase in the number of medical imaging devices. Apart from this, no significant difference was noted in opinions of technicians on the use of medical imaging devices and related technology with respect to hospital types. Our findings indicate that radiology technicians report a considerable imaging workload volume and a preference for working with higher number of medical imaging devices particularly those with the latest technology, whereas they also emphasize that the yearly increase in the number of imaging examinations does not indicate provision of an improved healthcare, and the cost should always be a criterion when purchasing the latest technology devices.

Health-related quality of life among radiology technicians in Turkish hospitals: a cross sectional study
(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2021) AKYURT, NURAN; Akyurt N.
Background: Health related quality of life (HRQoL), despite its potential bi-directional interaction with occupational risks, has not been extensively addressed among radiology technicians. Objective: To evaluate HRQoL among radiology technicians in relation to sociodemographic and occupational factors. Methods: A total of 115 radiology technicians who were employed in three big hospitals located in Istanbul province were included on a voluntary basis in this cross sectional questionnaire-based study conducted between June 2019 and August 2019. The questionnaire form elicited items on socio-demographic characteristics, occupational characteristics and the 36-item Short-form Health Survey (SF-36), respectively. Results: Overall, 94.8% of technicians confirmed previous training on radiation protection and safety, while 92.2% noted distrust in their knowledge on radiation protection and patient dosage. In addition, 47.8% of technicians noted seldom use of radiation protection measures and 55.7% noted distrust in reliability of radiation exposure measurements. The multiple regression analysis revealed that older age, female gender, working at a university hospital and seldom use of protection significantly predicted poor HRQoL (p = 0.042 to 0.001), while working in interventional radiology and having trust in radiation exposure measurements predicted better HRQoL (p = 0.006 to 0.001) in terms of certain domains. Conclusion: In conclusion, our findings revealed lack of trust in current self-knowledge on radiation protection and safety by majority of radiology technicians and seldom use of radiation protection measures by half of them, despite previously trained on radiation protection and safety. Certain occupational factors and factors related to radiation protection and safety were also amongst the significant determinants of poor HRQoL. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Determination of the Communication Skills of University Students by Sociodemographic Features
    (E D P SCIENCES, 2018) AKYURT, NURAN; Akyurt, Nuran; Masal, E; Onder, I; Caliskan, H; Besoluk, S
As a social being, human life continues in communities with other people. Human being is the only entity that communicates with highly complex learned behaviors that include best use of gestures and mimics, advanced reflex and instinct language as well as language. In our study, we wanted to determine the communication skills of university students with their socio-demographic characteristics. Two separate forms were used in the study. The evaluation of the obtained data was done by SPSS (Version 16.0) Statistical Package Program. The target population of the study is composed of students studying at Marmara University. In the direction of the data obtained within the scope of the research it was observed that the communication skills of the students studying in the departments providing health education are higher. University students are encouraged to develop listening skills and create an environment in which they can express themselves better.
