Publication: Triatletlerde zihinsel dayanıklılık ile psikolojik toparlanma arasındaki ilişkide psikolojik esnekliğin aracı etkisi
Abstract
The aim of this research is to examine the mediator effect of psychological flexibility on the relationship between mental toughness and psychological recovery in a sample of triathletes with a regular sports background. Additionally, the aim is to examine whether the relationships between mental toughness, psychological resilience, and psychological flexibility differ according to triathletes' age, sports experience, gender, and national status. 234 triathletes, 35 women and 199 men, who have been participating in licensed competitions for at least two years, participated in the research, and the average age was 23.84 SD=±9.124 years. Mental Toughness Scale in Sports, Psychological Recovery Scale in Sports, Psychological Flexibility Scale in Sports and Personal Information Form were applied to the participants. In the analysis of the data obtained in the study; the regression-based process macro add-on IBM SPSS 25.0 correlation and t-test were applied. According to the results of the mediation analysis, it was found that the mediating effect of Psychological Flexibility is significant in the relationships between the sub-dimensions of Mental Tougness and the sub-dimensions of Psychological Recovery. The sub-dimensions of mental tougness, control, commitment, and challenge, positively predict the sub-dimensions of psychological recovery, namely mental recovery, vigor, and improvement, while negatively predicting breakdown. On the other hand, the other sub-dimension of mental tougness, disintegration, negatively predicts the sub-dimensions of psychological recovery, mental recovery, vigor, and improvement, while positively predicting breakdown. It can be said that psychological flexibility has a mediating effect in the relationship between mental tougness and psychological recovery in triathletes.
