Kuadratik Yüzeyler Konusundaki Görselleme Süreçlerinin Fakülte Farklılıkları Bağlamında İncelenmesi

Abstract

Matematikte soyut kavramların ve simgesel temsillerin daha iyi anlaşılması bakımından görselleştirmenin her eğitim seviyesinde kullanılması önerilse de, yapılan çalışmaların genellikle lise ve altı düzeyde kaldığı görülmektedir. Bu çalışmada farklı fakültelerdeki üniversite öğrencilerinin kuadratik yüzeyler konusundaki görselleştirme süreçleri incelemiştir. Örneklem, amaçlı örnekleme yoluyla seçilmiş olup; İstanbul'daki bir devlet üniversitesin fen-edebiyat fakültesi, eğitim fakültesi ve teknoloji fakültesinden toplam 90 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Veri toplama sürecinde öğretim ortamını ve görselleme sürecini değerlendirmek üzere anket formu, test ve görüşme tekniğinden faydalanılmıştır. Çalışma bulguları, örneklem grubundaki öğrencilerin büyük çoğunluğunun kuadratik yüzeylerin görsel ve sembolik temsilleri arasında geçiş yapmakta zorlandıklarını göstermiştir. Öğrencilerin görselleme sürecindeki performanslarının kayıtlı olunan fakülte türüne göre değiştiği gözlenirken, bu farklılıklar epistemolojik inanç ve önceki öğrenme yaşantıları bağlamında tartışılmıştır. Ayrıca, öğretim ortamlarının geliştirilmesine yönelik bazı öneriler paylaşılmıştır.

The studies related to visualization were generally conducted to students in high school and lower levels, even though visualization is in the use of transition from the abstract concepts and symbolic representations to concrete one to make the concepts more understandable in every education level. This study investigated the relations among university students' performance processes on basic drawings of the 3-D shapes in calculus lessons according to these shapes' figures, names and formulas. The sample was chosen conveniently and it was composed of 90 students from science faculty, faculty of education and faculty of technology at a public university in Istanbul. Test and interview were research techniques used for gathering data from the student to evaluate the teaching environment and visualization process. Findings showed that the vast majority of the students had difficulties in the process of transition between symbolic and visual representations of quadratic surfaces. It was also observed that, visualization performance have affected from the faculty differences. The findings have been discussed in terms of epistemological belief and previous learning experiments.In addition, some suggestions have been shared to improve teaching environments.
