Abstract
The changing requirements of our age have required transformation in
different fields. The exchange has also shown itself in the field of
education and has enabled new courses to be included in the curriculum.
With the Thinking Education course, which is one of these courses, it is
aimed to give students different thinking skills and values. The skills and
values aimed to acquire in the thinking training course with the changing
curriculum in 2016 differed. However, there is no activity and guide book
suitable for the current curriculum. It is expected that the Thinking
Education course, which is accepted as an elective course within the scope
of social sciences, will be compatible with the values and skills of the
updated Social Studies curriculum. In this study, the timeliness of the
Thinking Education Teacher's Guide and the Thinking Education
curriculum published in 2016 was evaluated in terms of values and skills,
as well as the values and skill sets described in the Social Studies
Curriculum. At the end of the study, in the Social Studies curriculum,
which was updated with the Thinking education curriculum, 5 common
values of sensitivity, responsibility, diligence, love and respect; 5 common
skills were identified: research, critical thinking, using evidence, problem
solving, and using Turkish correctly, beautifully and effectively. No
partnership was found with the other 13 values and 22 skills. 3 common
values between the guide book and the social studies curriculum:
originality, respect and responsibility, and with the Thinking Education
curriculum, 5 common values have been identified: care, originality,
patience, respect and responsibility. In terms of skills, 2 common skills of
the guide book have been identified with the Social Studies curriculum. At
the end of the study, various suggestions were made for the Thinking
