Analysis of thinking education course in terms of values education and social studies skills

dc.description.abstractThe changing requirements of our age have required transformation in different fields. The exchange has also shown itself in the field of education and has enabled new courses to be included in the curriculum. With the Thinking Education course, which is one of these courses, it is aimed to give students different thinking skills and values. The skills and values aimed to acquire in the thinking training course with the changing curriculum in 2016 differed. However, there is no activity and guide book suitable for the current curriculum. It is expected that the Thinking Education course, which is accepted as an elective course within the scope of social sciences, will be compatible with the values and skills of the updated Social Studies curriculum. In this study, the timeliness of the Thinking Education Teacher's Guide and the Thinking Education curriculum published in 2016 was evaluated in terms of values and skills, as well as the values and skill sets described in the Social Studies Curriculum. At the end of the study, in the Social Studies curriculum, which was updated with the Thinking education curriculum, 5 common values of sensitivity, responsibility, diligence, love and respect; 5 common skills were identified: research, critical thinking, using evidence, problem solving, and using Turkish correctly, beautifully and effectively. No partnership was found with the other 13 values and 22 skills. 3 common values between the guide book and the social studies curriculum: originality, respect and responsibility, and with the Thinking Education curriculum, 5 common values have been identified: care, originality, patience, respect and responsibility. In terms of skills, 2 common skills of the guide book have been identified with the Social Studies curriculum. At the end of the study, various suggestions were made for the Thinking Education course based on the findings.
