Abstract
While the industrialization was a specific phenomenon to the core countries where capitalism developed from the 19th century to 1960s, it began to shift towards peripheral countries since 1960s. However, unlike in the past, the industrialization has not improved many of these countries to become one of the affluent countries. Because unequal relations throughout the world have continued and capitalist centers have shifted dirty and dangerous industries to peripheral countries dependent on imperialism, while profits have been accumulated to large corporations in core countries and the price of this has been paid by workers of peripheral countries. One such example of the displacement of the industry worldwide is the ship dismantling industry. The ship dismantling industry has been moved from countries such as USA, UK to India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, China and Turkey. This process has not only led to a relocation, but also a more deteriorating and dangerous environment than the traditional locations of the industry. In this study working conditions and labour relations in the ship dismantling industry at Turkey are examined by field research at Aliağa ship dismantling area.
