Abstract
Atatürk yaş aldıkça memleketi Selanik’i ve dolaylarını giderek daha fazla özlemiştir. Doğduğu şehrin Balkan Savaşı’nda elden çıkması bu hasreti daha da bilemiştir. Onun tarihte nakledilen bazı davranışları çek- tiği memleket özlemini apaçık bize gösterir. Çeşitli vesilelerle yöresinin ye- mekleri, şivesi, şarkı ve türküleriyle bütün kültürü kendisini hep duygu- landırmıştır. O çoğu zaman mantığını bilerek öne çıkarsa da aslında ince duygular yüklü bir insandı.
As Ataturk grew older he more and more missed his hometown Salo- nika and its surroundings. The loss of his hometown during the Balkan Wars further aggravated his craving nostalgia. Some of his behaviors as narrated in history reveal us his homesickness openly. On various occasi- ons the meals, the accent and the entire culture of his region with its songs and ballads always moved him deeply. Despite his deliberate emp- hasis of his logic most of the time, in reality he was a man full of tender feelings.
