Publication: Anadolu'daki Türkmen beglikleri ve Selçuklu sikkelerindeki astrolojik figürler
Abstract

These political entities minted coins in their domains and on these coins various Hellen, Roman-Byzantine, Sassanid and Islamic figures was used. Some of these figures have astrological meanings. The meanings and origins of the figures on these coins, which are important in terms of reflecting the beliefs about astrology among Turkmens, have been examined in this thesis. This thesis consists of four chapter. In the first chapter, the astrological beliefs among Oghuzs/ Turkmens and the relation between Seljuk dynasty and astrology are discussed. In the second chapter, in the light of the information in the first chapter and using the information in the Works written on the astrological figures available at that time, the planetary figured coins were examined and their meanings were explained. The influence of the Harranians living in Anatolia on these astrological beliefs has been shown. In the third chapter, the figugers of the zodiac signs are explained in the same way. In the fourth chapter, coins related to celestial bodies and events that are neither planet nor zodiac signs are shown and examined. In particular, it has been shown which specific celestial events these figures represent and why these talismanic figures was used on coins, by considering different types of coins with astrological figures.
